Chasing Games

Sharks and Minnows

Equipment

Cones to mark boundary lines

How to play

Set up a large rectangular playing area with two safe zones at each end (the shores). One player is nominated as the shark and stands in the middle of the ocean. All other players are minnows and line up on one shore. On the call of 'Shark Attack!' all minnows attempt to swim (run) across the ocean to the opposite shore without being tagged by the shark. Any minnow tagged by the shark becomes a seaweed and must stand still in place, waving their arms to try to tag passing minnows. The game continues with remaining minnows crossing back and forth until only one minnow remains. That player becomes the new shark.

Variations

Add more sharks at the start for larger groups. Seaweed players can only tag with one hand, or must keep one foot planted.
